Back on the Ship - April 7

Early Morning in Mumbai Port
This is just a summary of our travels over the last few days. We actually returned to the Queen Elizabeth April 5, just before it sailed. We went to bed early, then the next day we were in Oman - a long tour with no time to write. So today is the first of four days at sea, as we head toward the port of Safaga, Egypt. Now we can sit down and begin to share our adventures.

Mumbai Drive to the Airport

As planned, we left the ship in Mumbai on April 2. Traveling on a Cunard overland tour, we went to the airport and flew to Delhi. After lunch in Delhi, we were on a bus for 5 ½ hours for the drive to Agra. We reached the hotel in Agra at 8:30 PM, and had dinner in the hotel. The next morning we were at the Taj Mahal at sunrise. During the day, we toured the Red Fort, and then returned to the Taj Mahal for sunset.

The following morning, we drove to Delhi, had a tour of Lutyen’s Delhi (New Delhi), and visited Humayun’s tomb, spending the night in Delhi. The following day, we transferred to the airport for the three hour flight to Dubai. After a tour there, we rejoined the ship. On April 6 we were in Oman, we spent the day with a drive from Muscat to Nizwa to see the fort there.

We have sailed through seas we’ve never been in before.  On its way to Dubai, the ship entered the Gulf of Oman, which connects the Arabian Sea with the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.  After the ship left Dubai, it sailed back through the Strait of Hormuz and entered the Gulf of Oman again, for Port Sultan Qaboos, where we dock.  From this port, Muscat is just a couple of miles to the east.

This over view is an explanation as to why we have been silent for the last few days. During our days at sea, on our way to Egypt, we intend to provide details of our adventures and impressions of India, Dubai, and Oman. Tomorrow is Easter Sunday.

  1. Looking forward to reading your impressions of places. Have a good Easter Sunday. We will be going to the baptism of Liam and Parker (the twins of Jess and Jill) on Easter Sunday, at a catholic church in Glenview.

    Love, Jane
